This year’s Super Bowl commercial collection set all types of new records. Less hashtags and sex, with more celebrities and sobs. Most of the veteran brands toned down their messages, while the newcomers literally emptied accounts to make their name. Overall, I really enjoyed this year’s selections, but there were a few that silenced me for a minute. What was pretty lucky for me was that I watched the game at a local theater that shows the Super Bowl and the away Jaguar games for free. There were around 50-60 people watching, ranging in demographics, and most pretty vocal throughout the game (which kept it fun). This included their ratings for the commercials. I agreed with most of the room’s consensus, although unfortunately I missed a few of them at the concession stand. Below are my choices for the Good, the Bad, the Weird and the Ugly. Enjoy! DUUUVAAAL Needs a Geofilter
StandardLiving in a city going through its renaissance is extremely exciting, but only if everyone is involved and active. There are many organizations and groups supporting our Jaguars, the historic districts of Jacksonville and our community events, and when you search local hashtags, we outrank other major cities in the state. In my opinion, there is one thing could make this revitalization better and more interactive – Jacksonville’s very own Snapchat Geofilter! Snapchat introduced it’s Geofilters last summer as an added feature for its users. This allows Snapchat users in specific market areas to add custom overlays to their snaps for personalization. Some examples of this would’ve been seen by users during the College Gameday games on Saturdays and while visiting Disneyland.
Burro Bar Poster
ImageMy neighbor works with Burro Bar in Downtown Jacksonville with their marketing and promotions. She has been creating band posters for their upcoming shows for a while now, but wanted to change it up. Instead of creating an individual poster for each band, she wanted to make a weekly schedule poster that lists them all. She got off to a good start with the concept, but just needed help with the design.
Here is the final poster that was approved. This was created entirely in Photoshop using basic text and shapes, and Burro’s official logos.
Social Media Campaigns
Standard
One of my previous clients was asked to be a sponsor for this year’s “Anything Goes Tailgate” for the Georgia/Florida college football game. This year’s event featured a full performance the night before the game from a new country duo, Florida Georgia Line. My client received three pairs of tickets, among other offers, for being a sponsor, so we created a Facebook campaign to hold a contest for the ticket giveaway. Continue reading
Jowers Brewing
Standard
My husband and I have close friends who recently began home brewing for a new hobby. My husband automatically offered his help with the brewing side of it, but I wanted to assist their project in some way too. That’s when our friend’s wife said she was thinking of creating labels for the beer and having them printed – that was it! Once I heard the name of the first beer, I had a grand idea in mind and got working. Continue reading
I Now Pronounce You…
Standard
Recently, there was a particular project that I spent more time on than anything else in my life – my wedding. As a girl’s dream come true, my prince proposed and it was my turn to plan! When it came to my invitations, I knew that there was no way I would be able to just pick out any design in stores or online – I knew that I wanted them custom for me, by me. So, during my busiest year yet, I designed Save the Dates, the Invitations and Enclosure cards and the day-of Programs. My mother-in-law gratefully knew a wonderful local printer who offered to help with the printing, and I was able to pick out beautiful white linen paper for everything. All-in-all, I was very pleased with the result and got many compliments from friends and family! Continue reading
Senior Advertising Campaigns – Meros Academy
StandardAt the University of North Florida, each advertising or public relations student must complete their “senior seminar” course, whether they join Campaigns or complete an independent study. The Campaigns class is widely recognized among communications’ students as your first step into the business world. The class is structured like a full service agency. There are many departments such as Creative, Events and Production; we elect campaign and department directors; and, most importantly, the class is assigned a real-life, in operation business to represent and “pitch”. Rock Band Poster
Standard
The last Photoshop project completed in my Media Graphics course was the most difficult for me. The instructions were to simply make a rock band poster, could be for any artist, song or album. We were to incorporate certain effects in the poster, including a type mask, at least one layer effect, and one layer mask or gradient mask. Continue reading
Magazine Article Re-Creation
Standard
Another required class for the advertising program is Advertising Media Graphics. This is the intro design class for the program, and covers Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. One of the InDesign projects asked us to find an article, any article, written in the last 30 days, that we would use as content for a magazine spread. The layout and design was to be totally original, just the copy was used from the original article. Some of the skills and functions used in this project were character styles, paragraph styles, baselines grids and advanced use of text wrapping. Continue reading
WordPress

It’s a little odd to title a post the same name as the site I am posting on (did that make sense?) In August, visual.ly posted an infographic breaking down the numbers for WordPress as of 2013. It’s astounding to see that there are 69 million WordPress websites in the world, and that 100,000 new ones are created every day! And Media Mix is included in the count! Currently, 11 of our clients have WordPress sites built by us, including our own. We manage these every day, week and month according to what events, specials or updates need to be added.
